I hope you all had a great Christmas. This week it looks like the weather will cooperate (though a little windy) for a ride to NKC. I have us following this route to NKC; 16.2 miles there and 17.6 miles back for 33.8 total. Chicken N Pickle opens at 11:00 for food. I thought we'd go there for an early lunch.

It's going to be too cold (with no sunshine) and windy for me. There is an evening ride in Brookside that I may try in spite of the weather. See the banner below in the right column.
Because of the cool wind I have us starting at 9 and going to Riverside via the Line Creek Trail (again). Breakfast at the Corner Cafe - I expect we might be a smaller group than usual. The trip there is 10.5 miles and the return (wind assisted for most of it) is about 15 miles for a total of 25.5 miles.
This is the route I've mapped.
I am going to brave the elements with a trip to Haye's Hamburgers (and Chili) as long as our group is not too large. If it is we can choose a different destination.
The distance there (by this route) is 14+ miles and the return is about 14 miles for a total of 28.4 miles.
BRING CASH - they don't take plastic.

NOW IT'S THURSDAY MORNING, 6:06 AM : The strong winds and high chance of rain at about the midpoint of the ride are causing me to CANCEL the ride for today - sorry.
I will point out that "Upcoming Rides" (below right) have been updated and I want to alert you to a few Holiday Season rides - Cranksgiving, Trip the Light Fantastic, Christmas Lights Tour, and Santa Rampage. These are all pretty fun.
I hope to see you all next week. The forecast is for considerably cooler weather but of the sun is shining I can tolerate mid to high 30s warming into the 40s.

I plan to have a ride starting at 9:00AM to the Corner Cafe in Riverside following this route.
I thought we would delay the start till 9 AM again. It's only 14.9 miles to Kate's Kitchen and maybe 13 miles back by my route.
I am planning a ride for Thursday to the Dearborn Cafe. I will post the a firm start time on Wednesday which will depend on the temperature forecast - 8:30 or 9:00 is my thought.

Here is the route I have planned - 16.5 miles up and 15 back for a total of 31.5 miles. There are several hills and an increasing wind approaching 20 mph. I have us on hilly HH but the "other way" with a wind assist. Brunch at Roxanne's.

I'm just back in town and unpacked at 4:37 PM Wednesday. I left Nashville this morning at about 5:30 AM so I'm a little tired but I'm thinking of hitting Knuckleheads tonite. No time to devise a route but we can make one up on the spot tomorrow - likely shorter than usual but maybe around 30 miles.
My trip was awesome. It started with the Bourbon Burn in Lexington, KY. I rode 120+ miles in 3 days and tasted a little Bourbon but had a great time in the beautiful roads around Lexington. I also enjoyed the entertainment the organizers arranged in the evening.
Then on to Nashville where I say the Time Jumpers on Monday night at 3rd and Lindsley and a song circle at the Bluebird Cafe last night (Tues). Tuesday we spent a little time day drinking on Broadway listening to some country standards and paying respects to Loretta.

The Route to Corner Cafe in Liberty
I am unable to lead a ride this week. The plan is to have a Show-And-Go ride with a 8:30 AM start. Destination and mileage up to your leader, Bob Papreck, and the group.

I have an interesting route for Thursday. We are going to Scott's Kitchen for breakfast. This is a BBQ place but they have breakfast when we get there unless we have a bunch of flats. Speaking of flats, there will be hills in a few sections. 35.8 miles total - around 23 miles to our stop. See you there.
I will add more later but here is a possible route for Thursday, approximately 37 miles total with a trip around Lake Waukomis and a run by the new Buck O'Neil bridge construction. Breakfast at?

I've created a ride to Riverside, breakfast at the Corner. 15 miles there and about 25 back for 40 total.
I am learning of a thing at KC Bier Co. from 1 to 3 to be covered on National TV that may be of interest so the return trip could be abbreviated.
This week, HILLS. I have a ride to Platte City, 14.4 miles there (to Roxanne's) and 17.5 miles back for a total of almost 32 miles. There are hills on both halves but it has been awhile, especially on the part of HH just west of Interurban.
I have planned this route for our ride to Liberty this week. The mileage there is about 17.9 miles and the return trip is 19.9 miles for 37.8 total. Breakfast is at Ginger Sue's just off of the square in dowtown Liberty.
I'm giving early warning - I'm moving the ride to WEDNESDAY this week. I will be unable to lead on Thursday but I want to get back after RAGBRAI and COVID have interrupted my Northland group riding. I'll be happy to be back. The extended forecast looks great for the 17th so let's try that.
The route I have mapped is 24+ miles out and about 12 miles back for a total of nearly 37 miles.
I feel fully recovered from COVID but i still test positive. I understand this could persist beyond my contagious period. I understand that I should be masked at least 5 days beyond any symptoms. To be on the safe side I think I should not ride again this week.
Bob has offered to lead again this week. The ride will start at 8:00 AM again this week. I fully expect to be back again next week so I'll see you then.

I'm heading for the last 2 days of RAGBRAI on the 28th so Bob has offered to shepherd the Northland Thursday Morning Ride this week. I'm not sure what route he will pick, what mileage, what hills but oh what fun you can be sure. Have a great ride and I'll see you in August with some fresh RAGBRAI stories.
I'm going to Riverside via Parkville this week. 17 miles to the Corner Cafe via this route and 13+ miles back (using the shaded Line Creek Trail) makes a total of just over 30 miles ending before the intense heat of the day (I hope).
BTW - I will be riding over tot he start so I probably won't get there until closer to 8. I usually shoot for 1/2 hr before the start but not this time.
This week back to an old favorite, Kate's Kitchen. The route is about 35 miles (but has options near the finish for shortening up to 5 miles). The outbound route to Kate's is 18 miles and the full return would be 17 miles. Here is the route and map:

This week I have a ride to Platte City with breakfast at Roxanne's. The trip up is 12 miles and the return is 21 miles for 33 total. If the heat becomes a problem it would be easy to shave 4 miles off at the end of the ride. Here is the route:
This week I'm trying a destination from the past. The route is nearly 20 miles there and 17+ miles back for a total of 37.2 miles. This is a smaller destination so I am discouraging other groups from joining in. Ride with us from Embassy Suites if you want to come along. You may be able to tell the destination by reading the map. Their web site says they are open on Thursdays at 9 to 2.
I have plotted a ride to Smithville for Thursday - It's approximately 17 miles each way (34 total) and has several hills along the way. Brunch will be at HWY 169 Cafe. Here's the route:
