THURSDAY, April 25 - Decision - No Ride today - No Breakfast today

6:30 AM Thursday morning
UPDATE on THURSDAY NORTHLAND RIDE:
For several reasons I am going to cancel both the ride and breakfast today.
There may be a window for you to ride so I'm leaving you the opportunity to do a ride of your own choosing but I'm opting out of leading a group ride.  I've been out chasing hearts lately (51 so far) and could use a break anyway and I have a few chores I need to catch up on so - See You Next Week.

3:30 Wednesday afternoon
UPDATE on THURSDAY NORTHLAND RIDE:
Still no movement on the forecast.  I think I will have to wait until Thursday morning to make a decision.  I'm still considering a 8:00 AM start if it means we could sneak a ride in.  Stay tuned.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW:

I'm watching the weather and will post here later today (Wednesday).  I'm doing a ride this morning out south so I will check and decide this afternoon.

I'm thinking of an 8 AM start if that lets us beat the rain.

Maybe a figure 8 route to Scotts Hangar 29.

Later,

THURSDAY, April 18 - Looks Wet - Hy Vee at 9:00 (No Ride unless the forecast changes)

I've been watching the forecast.  They're calling for a pretty high chance of rain Thursday morning so let's meet for breakfast at the Hy Vee on Barry Rd and St Clair at 9:00 am.

SATURDAY (April 13th) - Ride from Prairie Village to the Parade of Hearts 2024 Kick Off - 9:00 AM

I have planned a 24 mile round trip route to the Parade of Hearts Kick-Off at the American Royal (YOU WILL NEED A $10 TICKET - AVAILABLE FROM THIS LINK).  The route is about 12 miles to the event, another mile to the Ship and about 19 total to the Hi Dive - all stops I plan to hit.

This Map My Ride version can be blown-up for details and even downloaded the uploaded to a Garmin.  Be aware that I sometimes modify routes en route.

I MAY ADD MORE DETAILS LATER

THURSDAY, April 11th : Show - N - Go from Embassy Suites - 9:00 AM Start

Bob Papreck is unable to be the substitute leader this week and I am still out BUT a core group of 5 regular riders have agreed to show at Embassy Suites at 9:00 AM Thursday with a destination and route to be decided by committee.  There is forecast of a significant wind from the Northwest.  If there is a cancellation check here. I will be able to post any changes in plans that morning.

Here's hoping for a happy ride and I plan to be back in the saddle on the 18th.

Brewery stop in Arnaudville.

K C and adopted friends in Shreveport. Dinner first night.

The famous "Bad Boys" were there this year

Taking off from Breaux Bridge for Day 3.  Steve rode 93+ miles.

PS - Cycle Zydeco was a blast!

THURSDAY (March 28) - SHOW N GO from Embassy Suites - 9:00 AM Start

I'm sorry I am going to miss this one - the weather looks pretty good, temperatures starting in the low 40s but rising to almost 60 degrees.  The winds start mild and elevate to the mid teens - a trip to the southwest - say maybe Parkville (Rochester's has a decent breakfast) - would give you a tailwind home.

The decision will be up to you and your ride leader for the next few weeks, Bob Papreck.  Thanks, Bob.

THURSDAY, March 21 - Embassy Suites to Kate's Kitchen - 9:00 AM Start

I have a shorter ride than usual, 22 miles due to cooler temps and the fact that I've been riding a lot.  The  temperatures do climb during the day so you could get out in the afternoon and add to your mileage.  here's the route:

This maps as 13 miles out and another 9 back for 22 miles total.  The temps start in the high 30s and climb to the low 50s with an 11 mph wind out of the east.  Cool but not too bad.

PS - The next couple weeks Bob Papreck will be leading a Show-N-Go starting at 9:00 AM as I will be unable to lead.  Enjoy the faster, longer and hillier stylings of your substitute leader.

THURSDAY, March 14th - Embassy Suites to Platte City (I hope) - 9:00 AM Start

 Firstly - HAPPY PI DAY!

I've been watching the weather again.  It looks like this week we have the reverse situation as last week.  Last week we were hoping the rain would stay away long enough for us to get a ride in - AND WE DID.  This week we hope the rain will leave soon enough for road conditions to be let us get our ride in.  My most recent viewing of my weather app looks like maybe we can ride.

Note that the pre-ride rain chances are not extremely high AND they have been improving so I'm hoping.  The temperatures look good.

Here is the route I propose - to Roxanne's in Platte City.  It's 12 miles up and 18+ miles back for a little over 30 miles total - with some incessant hills in some sections.

THURSDAY, March 7th - SHORT RIDE is ON - 9:00 Am at Embassy Suites - Maybe lunch after.

Here's my though.  The rain is forecast to move in about noon.  I think we could get a shorter ride in at 9:00.  You will note that our path leads us down Amity again where the Weatherby Lake folks could peal off and get home before the rain hits.  The rest of us could make it back to Embassy Suites and stay dry (I hope).  The ride maps at just under 24 miles.

I'm also thinking we could do a post ride gathering at Hy Vee or any other place we choose and at a time to be determined - giving us time to put bikes away and clean up a little.  We can discuss that.

Maybe I'll see you at 9:00.

THURSDAY, Febuary 29 (you don't say that every day) - Embassy Suites to Riverside

I know it's cold.  In the dead of winter we were looking for high 30s with sunshine.  The day warms up nicely but the wind picks up.  I have devised this ride to get away and head into the wind before it blows hard.  The ride is only a little over 10 miles to the Corner Cafe.  The return is 17 miles or so as I have mapped it.  By that time the temperatures will be hovering around 50 degrees.

If it appears I am nuts we can bail to breakfast.  We can make that decision at Embassy Suites.

Kelly and Ann are likely to make an appearance at breakfast however we do this.

THURSDAY, February 22 - Embassy Suites to Smithville - 9:00 AM Start

Below I have copied the intended ride from last week.  We'll try this again.

I've mapped out this route to the HWY 169 Cafe in Smithville - 18 miles there and about 13 back for a little less than 31 miles total.

THURSDAY, February 15 - Embassy Suites to Smithville - 9:00 AM Start

UPDATE - Ride plans changed.  Went to Haye's Hamburgers (Antioch & Vivion) for 31+ mile round trip.  Temperature and wind direction influenced the change.

ORIGINAL POST

I've mapped out this route to the HWY 169 Cafe in Smithville - 18 miles there and about 13 back for a little less than 31 miles total.

I'm off to the parade soon.  Maybe see some of you there.

THURSDAY, February 8th - Embassy Suites to Riverside - 9:00 AM Start

Hey - another late post.  I've been looking at the forecast (and getting a Wednesday ride in) hence my delay.  The wind prediction has been disconcerting but I think I'll give this a try.  My plan is to ride to Riverside for breakfast at the Corner Cafe.  I'll use the trail there to block the wind as much as I can.

OK - I'm back  The route up with which I came is a 25 mile total.  Only a little over 10 miles to the Corner Cafe and about 15 miles back.

If it turns out that we don't like the windy conditions we can modify the route or even bail on the ride and do breakfast at Cracker Barrel right across the interstate.

THURSDAY, February 1 - Embassy Suites to Scott's Kitchen - 9:00 AM Start

 FINALLY

It looks like a good day for a ride, temperatures from the high 40s pushing into the 60s.  Wow.

I've mapped this route to Scott's Kitchen - the BBQ and breakfast place on Ambassador near Cookingham.  We will start at 9 AM from Embassy Suites - 15 miles to Scotts then 16 miles back.  I haven't ridden Eastside Drive (of Weatherby) in a little while.  I was trying to stretch out a 30 miler (with a few hills).  I have a couple high 20 milers in since the weather broke.  I think 31 will be enough coming out of hibernation.

Hope you can make it.  See you there.

THURSDAY, January 25th - No Ride again (UNLESS THINGS CHANGE) - 9:00 AM Breakfast at Hy Vee

UPDATE THURSDAY 7:40 am - Fog, wet roads and rain coming SO see you at breakfast.

This doesn't look good enough to ride to me.  The temps are OK but no sun, probable rain and more probably wet roads - I think riding is out again.  Next Thursday looks much better with the return of 50 degree temps.  The weather looks like it might break on Sunday or even before.

IF, however, IF CONDITIONS CHANGE - I may call for a ride at 9 instead.  I will post a change early Thursday morning if that is the case.

For now the plan is the usual breakfast at Hy Vee (Barry & St Clair) at 9 am.  See you there.

It's getting closer but he weather and road conditions keep up off of our bikes again.

THURSDAY, January 4th - Breakfast at Hy Vee - No Ride - 9:00 AM

First - I ran across this picture of me (wearing the cap with the "A" - 3rd from right) with neighbor kids.  A couple months before my 9th birthday.

As for as the THURSDAY thing goes - it's a little below my threshold for riding so let's meet for breakfast as Hy-Vee again.  See you at 9.

Full sunshine and I might have considered a late start.  I'm waiting till next week.
