ROUTE ALTERATION (sink hole on Guinotte)
SURPRISE
As kind of a last minute thing I am able to, and conditions favor, a K2K ride on June 8th.
You may have learned that a sink hole on Guinotte has developed and it affects our ride finish. I have mapped the alternative (in red) as compared to the usual route (blueish).
- We will not turn east on 3rd after crossing the Heart of America Bridge from NKC.
- Instead we continue on Cherry to 5th where we turn east.
- Take 5th to Lydia where we turn left (North) to 2nd (perhaps unmarked but you have to turn)
- Right on 2nd to the connector trail to Cliff Drive - a short but steep climb.
- Once on Cliff Drive we head east till we reach the Chestnut overpass where drop down on sidewalks to Chestnut.
- Go downhill (north) on Chestnut to Nicholson Ave - left to Montgall for 1 block - left on Montgall to Knuckleheads
This will add a little distance and an up-hill but it is prettier and you do finish with a nice down-hill.
DRIVE TO KNUCKLEHEADS (no railroad tracks)
There are two routes to Knuckleheads where there are no rail crossings so you won't get held up by a train.
From I-29 and Independence Avenue:
East on Independence Ave to Chestnut
North (left) on Chestnut to Nicholson Ave (all the way to the bottom of the hill)
Left (west) on Nicholson for 1 block then left (south) on Montgall to Knuckleheads
From Chouteau Trafficway and Gardner
West on Gardner and continue as it turns south becoming Chestnut
Right (west) on Nicholson for 1 block then left (south) on Montgall to Knuckleheads
SURPRISE
As kind of a last minute thing I am able to, and conditions favor, a K2K ride on June 8th.
Saturday, June 8th I will lead another ride to Kate's Kitchen from Knuckleheads at Rochester Ave & N Montgall Ave, Kansas City, MO 64120. The idea here is to ride to brunch from Knuckleheads leaving at 8:30AM for Kate's Kitchen at 80th and North Oak. Kate's has been great about seating our group promptly upon arrival, serving us quickly and presenting us with a selection of great items from their menu.
The route is about 12.5 miles to Kate's while the return to Knuckleheads is approximately 20 miles of mostly downhill and flat, a good half of which is on a beautiful trail.
There could be a refueling stop at a micro-bewery in the NKC area before working our way back to Knuckleheads and their no-cover blues jam.
